Pregnant and mood swings? All is well.
Pregnancy is the most beautiful period of a woman’s life. It is a moment that is cherished by her family and friends as well. But there are some after effects of conceiving that one has to go through, like putting on weight, Insomnia, high blood pressure, pregnancy pigmentation, and mood swings etc.
Yes! You heard it right. Mood swings are very common during pregnancy. You may feel happy this moment and the very next moment you may feel irritated. Many times you may find yourself crying for no reason. But don’t get tensed, you haven’t gone insane. These quick changes in emotions are due to the hormonal changes taking place in your body.
Reason behind mood swings during pregnancy:
Pregnancy brings about many changes in a woman’s body. Physical as well as hormonal changes are part of it. Due to these hormonal changes, your moods get affected easily. The increasing level of estrogen and progesterone in your blood causes the mood swings. You may be all excited about the new member that is going to come in your family, but then some worries dawn on you. Whether you will be a good parent, how will the baby affect your financial life, will you be able to handle the house and newborn together etc. But there is nothing to worry. These mood swings are common during pregnancy. Mood swings are more intense during the first trimester and towards the end of the pregnancy period. It may be a bit tough time but you must come out of it.
Tips to cope up with Pregnancy Mood Swings:
Here are a few tips that will help you manage your mood swings to some extent.
Be Easy: Do not take your mood swings seriously. You know that mood swings are not under your control. So, stop worrying about your unpredictable mood changes. Try to relax whenever you feel out of control. Taking a nap or getting a head massage will help you calm down.
Let the emotions flow free: Do not hide or control your emotions from your loved ones. They have the right to know what you are going through. Express out what you feel to your partner. Spend quality time with him and try to strengthen your relationship. Explain to him the reason of your strange behavior so that next time you act weird he can handle you better.
Pamper Yourself: Take some time out for yourself. Indulge in some of your favorite activities. It may be reading books, watching movies with your friend, shopping, a picnic with family, spa appointment etc.
Manage Stress: Instead of getting frustrated, find ways to relax. Get yourself enrolled in prenatal yoga classes or meditation classes, get good sleep, eat healthy, spend time with people you enjoy being around, etc. But if these techniques do not work, don’t hesitate to get a professional help.
When to seek Professional help to overcome stress and depression:
Around 10% of females suffer from depression during pregnancy. If you get frequent mood swings, anxiety, nervousness, you may be suffering from Bipolar Disorder. It is important for you to then consult your doctor and get medical help. It is necessary to get it treated because, if left untreated, it may affect the pregnancy and baby’s health.
A happy pregnancy will always gift you a healthy baby. Giving birth to a baby is the most wonderful experience of life for a woman. Enjoy it to the fullest and have a safe and healthy pregnancy.
